TCC's hat-trick
Friday, September 29, 2006

One of the last among my friends to try TCC (The coffee Connoisseur). Heard them singing praises about their interesting drinks. So, i wonder what has got into me.. visited it 3times in a week after my first visit. My favourite of all that i've tried, "Shrooms Bites" (extreme right pic). It's super duper yummy la... Oh, the seats are so comfy too. I like the cosy designs of thier different branches. and I must say the Presentation of their food is rather good...

Tried 3 of their desserts too. The serving of white wine sabayon is so small but the taste is really one-of-a-kind. i enjoyed its unusual taste. Oh, their dark devotion is not worth the price and that's what inspired me to search for recipe online and made my own warm molten chocolate cake .

Favourite MODULE of the semester
Saturday, September 23, 2006

I really enjoy this module called "Promotional Management" from the business faculty. No exam but super "xiong" project. 3M will be sponsoring the project-competition and we are supposed to help them think of promotional plans by end of the term. Other than this interesting part, we were shown many commercials all over the world. Some are really creative and impressive. Really wonder how they get the idea. The lecturer showed us so many interesting ones and i tried searching for it on "you-tube". Ta-dahhhh.. scroll down to enjoy. These 3 uploaded ones are my favourite!!!

Commercial(II) - Honda Car

no camera tricks and used 600 takes before they got the effect they want! cool ~ using the different parts of the cars to create the dominos effect and introducing the various car-functions. wow, impressive!

Commercial (III)

poor dog... i would not have chosen the bulldog for sure. Isn't it obvious who looks better?

Sandcastle competition??!!
Sunday, September 17, 2006

Sometimes, Civil Engineering tries too hard to make the academic more interesting. Well, i must say that it's quite fun to make a fool of ourselves thru' Sandcastle competition, while trying to fulfil the requirement for a particular module

Materials provided: Dry sand (no water allowed) and newspapers

So we are supposed to come with ideas on how to stack the sand to reach the maximum height, withstand the most surface load and lateral force by a GIGANTIC "pendulum bob". wow, sounds so technical. Check out the ugly sandcastle that we built?! Don't they just look like piles of garbage? Alright, guess which of this is made by zhenlin and me?!

Chef of the day

Went "prawning" on saturday nite. A total of 13 prawns - "beginner's luck". Though some are really quite tiny compared to the CATCH by the family sitting diagonally opposite, STILL i should be contented with the performance during this first attempt.

It's $24 for 2.5 hours. Well, it's true that you can get loads of prawns at that price in the market but the whole thrill started off from the tug at the end of your rod, then lifting it at the right angle while anticipating a huge one clinging onto the hook and making sure that the prawns don't just nibble your bait and swim off freely. At the end of the day, leave the place with a sense of satisfaction and all excited to show mummy. muahaha... oh, n of course, good company too :-)

The next day, i was so motivated to cook for the family. So here it goes... with whatever ingredients i can find at home--> grilled prawns with hint of lemon and garlic, potato/egg/brocolo/cherry tomato rojak salad ANdddddd highlight of the day... WARM MOLTEN CHOCOLATE CAKE. check out my nice presentation... haha. FUN...

One example of Bad service in Singapore
Sunday, September 10, 2006

Went Ricciotti with CHAM last Saturday for a really good deal -> 1-for-1 pasta, pizza and gelato when we use UOB card. Ricciotti is under the Garibaldi Group of Restaurants. Menotti which i've visited earlier with Kylie was under the same group too. So after exploring the website, Menotti and Ricciotti sell exactly the same items on the menu, but the latter at a slighter cheaper price.

ok, here comes the irritating part:
Me : Hi, i understand that your pastries are 50% off after 9pm rite?
Waiter: Yes, but you can't combine 2 promotions together since you are using UOB card
Me : oh, mayb i can split the bill

Waiter: no, you can't split the bill for the same table
Me : then i can pay for the bill for my dinner now. then i get the pastries?

Waiter: no, but the restaurants won't earn if you do that. you can't do that...
Me : But any other customers can enjoy this offer. so you are suggestin that if i walk out and come back in to the restaurant immediately, i'll get the 50% off?
Waiter: Yes, you could do that..

*roll eyes* What kind of logic is this?!?!?! Firstly, i felt super-"aunty" arguing with him about this 50% offer and secondly, felt more like an idiot for not being able to get what i wan. Why? Because the policy is such a NONSENSE! what kind of service is this, asking your customer to walk out n back in again! Isn't it funny if we sit on the same table!!!! isnt just like splitting the bill? will te restaurant earn more like that? I don't really enjoy arguing for such instances but just hate it when they don't admit that their offers have loopholes. arghhh... *so what if your Duomo pastry is fantastic?!!?!* ~bleah

The conversation
Saturday, September 09, 2006

An interesting SMS-conversation with my brother...

Brother: Where did you get the ingredients for making Creme Brulee?
Me: It's called thickened cream. get it from NTUC fairprice
Brother: Don't have leh. I'm at "shop and save". Do all NTUC have?
Me: You are so troublesome. Just go to any NTUC and ask. They are the same and will have it.
Brother: Not all NTUC are the same. Some sell ham and some doesn't.
Me: But all NTUC sells eggs and milk. The cream is as common as that. Just go and ask!!!

haha... ok lame...
