the trip (part I of III) - Tim-Hortons Night
Wednesday, March 08, 2006

Back from my really short trip to Montreal, Quebec & Ottawa. The trip is too short to really understand a different city. Still, i would say that this trip is quite value-for-money.

Before i go into the details of my trip, i have the urget o mention about Tim Hortons. I simply love the cafe mocha and hazelnut hot smoothie from store. The donuts and danish are as yummy as Dunkin Donuts. The number of franchise is scary. It's as many as the number of 7-11 convenient stores we can find in Thailand. Ok, maybe that's exaggerating because who can beat the record of 7-11 stores in Thailand (2 outlets right opposite each other and a few more along the same street). Nevertheless, it's my favourite chill-out spot in the campus. *there are 4 Tim Hortons in University of Waterloo. Most of us called it Timmys.

So the main point is: Lately, Timmy has started their annual "rrRRRoll-up-the-rim-to-win" contest. Basically. if we buy a cup of medium or larger sized beverage, we are entitled to a chance to roll up the rim of the cup of our drink. Prizes include 500x$1000 cash, 30XToyota Rav4, 10,000Xportable BBQ pit, 100XPlasma TV and over 27,ooo,ooo food prizes. A really good marketing strategy because i used to buy a small cup but now, i always get a large cup because they have this poster pasted in stores, saying that my area has a higher chance of winning cash if i purchase a large. As for montreal city, a medium cup sta
nds a higher chance. interesting ya?

So why am i saying all these? on the night before we set off for our trip, we have to look for a place to spend the night as the coach will only pick us up at 5:30am in the mornin. Timmy is the first place that come to my mind. I searched for a 24hrs outlet and guessed what, we've walked from the shoppin mall to the Timmy which is near our pick-up point for 1.5hrs in the cold... JUST TO SAVE $2.25. (nah, it's actually to kill time too since we have "all the night" in the world. I'm confident that i'll win something that night since i'll have to buy quite a number of cups to last me thru the night. (*Joo has already won a free cup of coffee). I WANT MY $1000!!!

oH MY... i won i won!!! rolled up the rim of my first cup of the night and won a "FREE DONUT". ok, it's the smallest prize of all but heck... it's a gd start...heehee. In our 5hrs stay, we bought a total of 9cups. Time passed quite fast and we are all ready for a good rest on the bus...

The trip shall begin . . .
